Dealer Showcase: Williams Creek Angler

We sat down with Cheeky & Wingo Dealer, Dave Pehle, of Williams Creek Angler in Pagosa, CO.

CF: Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Dave:  I started in Pagosa being a guide myself a long time ago. The shop I worked for at the time ended up being sold in 2000, so I decided to make a big move and buy a shop in Boca Raton, FL.

CF: Wow! How did you end up back in CO?

Dave: I enjoyed getting the shop in FL set up, and turned around, before I ended up selling it and decided to come back to Pagosa. Once I was back in CO I had to decide what to do, so what did I decide? Open up another store! So in 2017 I opened up Williams Creek Angler.

CF: Great! And does the shop offer guide services still?

Dave: Yes! We  specialize in European or Czech style nymphing - been doing that for a long time. We offer half and full day trips, wade only.

CF: And can newbies come to the trips or do you need a level of expertise?

Dave: Everything is included – you can show up with no gear! We also provide lunches on the full days.

CF: And what about the shop side?

Dave: Well of course we sell Cheeky Fishing and Wingo Outdoors products, including the gear you typically see in a fly shop.  We actually also build rods here (at Pagosa Rod and Tackle) using blanks from CTS out of New Zealand, which is a little different.

CF: And how can folks find you, and when?

Dave:  We’re open all year long. Winters can be a little slow, but we are open! We stay open 7 days a week, 7:30am-4:30pm during the season and winter time usually 8am-4pm. We’re located off of Talisman Dr in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

CF: Of course we have to ask- what is your favorite Cheeky & Wingo products?

Dave: Hmm my favorite cheeky reel is going to have to be the Sighter Fly Reel. I just started using the Sighter, I put it on one of my euro rods and I love it. I also can’t keep the PreLoads in the store! I get ‘em in and they immediately go – people love this one.

As for favorite Wingo product – well I have to say I use the key fob ALL the time – the Rainbow Trout pattern is what I have.
