October is breast cancer awareness month - can you tell us about the impact CfR has had on those who have been a part of programs etc? 

It's truly a life-changing experience, not only for the participants, but also for the volunteers. It's difficult to describe how much transpires in a 2 1/2 day retreat, but it is so powerful. For someone who has received a cancer diagnosis, it's such a welcome respite to focus on something other than cancer.

A day on the flats is dictated by tides, sun angle, accessibility, wind, fly selection, fly presentation, stealth, and perseverance. Don’t be too daunted, the good thing is that if you do most things right most any angler can catch a few bonefish.  Although some fish require a perfect presentation at 90’ into the wind most fish can be caught at 40 feet, or even less.  I actually caught one once at a distance of 9’ 6” and I fish a 9’ rod!

The 13th Annual Cheeky Schoolie Tournament presented by Simms is a wrap. The Saturday of the Tournament was a beast. The Cape weather came to play ball. Now, it was time to test the gear. Wicked jumps, line peeling, and the captain backing down on the fish aggressively made the first one very exciting and we landed him rather quickly. The next 4 I caught, wouldn’t be so easy. I was thinking to myself "okay that was great, the eats are so much better on fly and it didn’t take much longer to land on fly than conventional gear, this is awesome." Fish number two made me eat my words. After peeling line and epic jumps like the first one…

If you’ve ever been in the market for a reel, chances are you’ve read or been told about a product’s drag. Drag is no doubt an important tool for any situation where you might find yourself fighting a fish on the reel, but this feature is too often portrayed in the wrong way to anglers. If I had a dollar for every time somebody showing me a new reel cranked the drag down all the way and handed it to me to test out… I wouldn’t be rich but I could definitely buy a couple extra spools of tippet or something. Anyway, it’s enough to have noticed.
